If you live in DFW, you have probably noticed three things: more homes, more cars, and… more orange construction barrels. They seem to have claimed their own zip code!
DFW is continuing to grow, and major construction projects are changing how people drive, commute, travel, and even think about where to buy a home.
🚧 I-635 East: The Big One
One of the biggest projects is the I-635 East reconstruction from U.S. 75 to I-30. The $1.74 billion project covers about 11 miles and includes wider lanes, continuous frontage roads, and improvements to the I-635/I-30 interchange.
Construction is expected to continue through fall 2026, meaning drivers around areas such as Garland, Mesquite, and East Dallas should expect ongoing lane changes and closures.
For buyers, this is a reminder that today’s commute may not look exactly the same a year from now.
🛣️ Downtown Dallas Is Getting a Major Makeover
The I-30 Canyon project is also underway between I-35E and I-45. The $888 million project began in January 2026 and is expected to continue through 2031.
The plan includes widening I-30, improving connections between city streets, and making changes around pedestrian and bicycle routes.
Translation: downtown Dallas is going to have a construction buddy for a while.
✈️ DFW Airport Is Growing, Too
DFW Airport has several major projects underway. Terminal F is officially under construction and will add a 400,000-square-foot concourse with 15 gates and a new Skylink station.
Meanwhile, Terminal C is being completely reimagined, with major improvements planned throughout the terminal. Nine new gates opened in June 2026 as part of the ongoing work.
🏡 What Does This Mean for Home Buyers?
Construction can be annoying today, but new roads, airport improvements, and transportation upgrades can also make certain areas more convenient over time.
If you’re buying in DFW, don’t just ask, “Do I like this house?”
Also ask:
“How will I get to work from here?”
“What’s being built nearby?”
“Could my commute change?”
A little research now can save you from discovering your new neighborhood’s construction project on your first Monday morning.
